Speakers announced for 39th Perinatal Conference

Sioux City, IA - St. Luke’s will host its 39th annual Perinatal Conference on Wednesday, January 23 from 8 am to 4:15 pm at the conference’s new location, the Hilton Garden Inn, in Sioux City. The conference offers continuing education credit for physicians and nurses from across the region who provide prenatal and perinatal care to mothers, newborns and their families.

This year’s conference will highlight current topics and controversies in perinatal-neonatal care including the top 10 obstetrical issues in Iowa, controversial issues in the management and care of late pre-term babies, vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) and uterine rupture, umbilical cord clamping and milking, ethical dilemmas in neonatology and palliative care in the perinatal and neonatal setting.

Conference speakers include Stephen K. Hunter, MD, PhD, Professor and Director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City; Jeffrey L. Segar, MD, Director of the Division of Neonatology at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City; Al D. Fleming, MD, FACOG, Medical Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City; Melissa N. Holtz, MD, Siouxland Obstetrics and Gynecology PC in Sioux City; Janet Dutcher, DNP, RN, NNP-BC, Manager of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center in Sioux Falls; and John W. Sparks, MD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Continuing education credit is available for physicians, nurses and other health care professionals. Cost of the conference is $89 before January 16 and $99 after January 16, 2012.
