St. Luke’s ranked among top hospitals for community value

07/19/2011

Sioux City, IA - St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center ranks among the nation’s top hospitals for the value it brings to the local community according to a new study.

In its eighth annual Community Value Index® (CVI) study, Cleverley + Associates named St. Luke’s one of the top hospitals nationwide among nearly 3,000 reviewed. St. Luke’s is the only Siouxland area hospital included on the list of “Community Value Five-Star®” facilities.

The CVI study was created to provide a measure of a hospital’s overall value. The CVI suggests that a hospital provides value to the community when it is financially viable, reinvesting appropriately back into its facility, maintains a low cost structure, has reasonable charges and provides high quality care to patients. As a non-profit organization, St. Luke’s reinvests 100% of its operating margin in patient care, facilities, enhancing hospital and clinic services and community health support.

Hospitals including St. Luke’s with scores in the top twenty percent were designated as “Community Value Five-Star®” facilities.

“As a non-profit organization, St. Luke’s community involvement is two-fold. While we depend on the community for support, Siouxland expects us to continue to offer quality care, services and programs. We are pleased to be named among the top hospital nationwide for providing value to our local community. For the life of Siouxland,” says Peter Thoreen, President and CEO of St. Luke’s Health System.

Cleverley + Associates was established in 2000 to enhance the financial position of hospitals. Its CVI study focuses on the financial condition of hospitals nationwide by examining the value a hospital provides its community.
