Council approves St. Luke’s targeted jobs application for Sunnybrook campus expansion

Sioux City, IA - The Sioux City Council has approved St. Luke’s request to submit an Iowa Economic Development Authority application for the Targeted Jobs Withholding Tax Credits Program for the health system’s new Sunnybrook Medical Plaza.
The Sunnybrook project includes a new 86,000 square foot modern medical facility on Sunnybrook Drive and represents an investment of $27 million. Employing a staff of over 100, the outpatient medical space would be located next to large retail centers in the Sunnybrook business district, bringing primary care, specialists, diagnostic and procedural services together to improve access and communication between services.
“The future trend of health care is moving toward more outpatient and home based services. The Sunnybrook Medical Plaza will create a convenient and accessible location for outpatient services in a growing portion of our community,” says Chad Markham, St. Luke’s Vice President of Clinics and Network Development. “This facility will provide great care and convenience for the people of Siouxland, as well as promote coordination of care between many different specialties and medical services.”
The Targeted Jobs Withholding Tax Credits Program is a valuable tool in the recruitment and retention of business in Sioux City. Created as a five-year pilot program in 2007 to help Iowa border communities compete with neighboring states, the Targeted Jobs Program was extended in 2009 and offers a withholding tax credit equal to 3% of qualifying wages paid to employees for up to 10 years. The Targeted Jobs Program has assisted 26 Sioux City companies by retaining 518 jobs, creating 699 new jobs and $53 million in new non-retail investments.
