St. Luke’s again selected as ‘consumers choice’ in Siouxland
10/28/2010
Sioux City, IA - For the second year in a row, St. Luke’s has been named Siouxland’s preferred hospital by National Research Corporation (NRC). An honor given to the nation’s hospitals with the highest quality and image, this award reflects the growing role consumer choice is playing in the healthcare field.
Consumer Choice Award winners are determined by consumer perceptions in four areas including best overall physicians, nurses, quality and image and reputation, collected in NRC’s Healthcare Market Guide TickerSM study. Of the 3,200 hospitals named by consumers in the study, the winning facilities rank highest in their Core Based Statistical Areas as defined by the US Census Bureau. The study surveys over 250,000 households, representing over 450,000 consumers.
“As a community-based hospital, our commitment is to care for patients in the Siouxland area, so we are especially proud to have the people we serve reconfirm St. Luke’s as their preferred hospital,” says Peter Thoreen, President and CEO of St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center, Siouxland’s only hospital to receive this award. “We know patient have a choice when it comes to healthcare and we appreciate that they choose St. Luke’s”
Thoreen adds the award is particularly an honor as it focuses on four areas we strive for excellence in achieving: staff, quality, image and reputation.”
“This award confirms what we already know is paramount to our success—our quality physicians and staff and our reputation for patient-centered care. The Consumers Choice Award confirms the community’s image of St. Luke’s as a high quality healthcare facility, and we are very grateful for Siouxland’s continued support,” says Thoreen.
St. Luke’s recognition as a Consumers Choice Award winner comes on the heels of the hospital’s recent announcement that it plans to extend its healthcare offerings through expanded outpatient services to be offered on a new outpatient campus in the Sunnybrook Business District in Sioux City’s morningside area. The goal of this project is to offer convenient, cost-effective services that will align with the future progression of healthcare in this community.
Widely regarded as the nation’s most comprehensive consumer assessment of the healthcare industry, the NRC Healthcare Market Guide Ticker study selects the nation’s leading hospitals annually. No other study used to measure hospital performance and preferences contains more consumer responses than the NRC study. NRC has more than two decades of experience in healthcare performance measurement and improvement.
