St. Luke’s named premier women’s hospital
08/11/2010
Sioux City, IA - Home to over 2,100 births each year and an innovative platform of women’s programming, St. Luke’s has a reputation as Siouxland’s number one choice for women’s healthcare. Now, the hospital has received national recognition as a premier leader in women’s health excellence.
Spirit of Women Health Network in cooperation with the Office on Women’s Health and Department of Health and Human Services recognized St. Luke’s as a community accelerator for women’s health excellence in the United States. The distinction is based on an evaluation using National Standards of Excellence in Women’s Health which measure clinical excellence in women’s healthcare and community outreach.
“It is very rewarding to be recognized for programs we believe are vital for women of all ages. St. Luke’s has an established legacy as Siouxland’s women’s health leader, and while our efforts are strictly focused on improving the health of Siouxland women, it is truly an honor for our staff to be recognized for their commitment to women’s health excellence,” says Peter Thoreen, St. Luke’s President and CEO.
Focused on innovative programming for women and families, St. Luke’s Spirit of Women has been instrumental in bringing new opportunities to Siouxland including Day of Day for Health on February 27, 2010; Done in a Day on October 15, November 19 and December 17 and Runway Review Siouxland Style in the spring. In addition to these events, Spirit of Women also offers a teen health program, pregnancy preparation programs and Spirit Girls, a program developed in collaboration with Girls, Inc.
In receiving recognition as a premier hospital in women’s services, St. Luke’s was singled out for the hospital’s multidisciplinary approach to care, implementation of comprehensive life stage programming, sensitivity to community and cultural diversity and quality improvement processes.
“There is such a wide scope of health-related issues affecting women today, so St. Luke’s is particularly proud to be making a difference in the lives of women and their families right here in Siouxland,” adds Thoreen.
